Israel’s Non-Proportionality vs Gaza: Why were so many Gazans killed and so few Israelis? Israel made great efforts at great cost to the economy to prevent casualties while Hamas did the reverse. Israel installed a system of immediate tracking of missile launch, calculation of trajectory, alarm system in all towns in the South, emergency drills in schools and hospitals and work-places and homes, preparation of public protected areas, etc, and was able thereby to minimize casualties, by having life stop for the residents of any city attacked even by a single missile. Thousands of missiles were launched, and each caused an immediate cessation of ordinary life in the targeted town, at great psychological and economic cost, but thereby saving lives. Even a missile which ,issed the town or hit an open field or caused only small damage to one home paralyzed the whole city for 15 minutes and added to the psychological and economic toll. In contrast Hamas made every effort to ensure that their own military were well protected, and that their own civilian casualties (as well as those of Israel) were maximized.

Breathing Chlorine Bleach. Gas mask on my face, crouched far from the window lest it shatter from a missile blast, living in a room hermetically-sealed against chemical weapons, with chlorine-bleach soaked rags under the door to prevent seeping gas from entering, I felt helpless.
