Places Lost examines various historical and philosophical themes associated with Newfoundland resettlement. Structured by my travels during the summer of 1998, the book provides historical vignettes, explores various ways in which physical objects lose and acquire significance, and examines the role of photography in dealing with the loss of place these former communities represent. Places Lost includes duotone reproductions of forty of the Unsettled images, along with many photographs of the communities in their heyday. It is available online (United States, Canada) and in St. John’s at the Christina Parker Gallery, The Rooms gift shop, and Afterwords Bookstore. |
