My core training is in the philosophy of mind and language, with special emphasis on mental causation and mentalistic causal explanation. I am especially interested in applying results from the philosophy of language to these topics, an approach that seems to me underexplored in the literature. |
| As well, I apply various results from the philosophy of mind to issues in the metaphysics of photography. I defend the traditional view of photography as an especially objective form of representation, and explore the ramifications of this objectivity for the epistemology of the medium, the ethics of photographic portraiture, and the intersection between photography and the philosophy of art. |
